The Driving Force Behind Tank

Marel is the founder of Tank Insurance. He spent years in banking and finance with Commonwealth Bank, then moved into asset finance and management consulting for finance companies, including roles where he advised executive teams and contributed to ASX market updates for a listed company.

Real Business Experience

Beyond his corporate career, Marel has been an investor, founder, and builder of multiple businesses. He's helped grow and scale a real estate agency, co-founded a conveyancing firm before selling his stake, held an investment in an accounting firm, and built an entertainment business from scratch which he later sold. He knows what it's like to make payroll, manage cash flow, and lie awake thinking about risk.

Why He Started Tank

Working with ASX-listed companies and growing SMEs, Marel kept seeing the same problem: business owners who were serious about growth were being treated as policy numbers by large insurers. They'd get stuck in call centre queues, talking to people who understood insurance products but had never actually run a business. Tank Insurance exists to fix that. Strategic & Operational Expertise

Jack O'Hagan is a pivotal member of the Tank Insurance team, bringing a rich blend of strategic and operational expertise. With 2 years of dedicated experience in the insurance industry complemented by 4 years in law and asset finance, including senior leadership positions, Jack possesses a comprehensive understanding of complex business environments.

Process Excellence

Before joining Tank, Jack worked with asset finance companies on legal recoveries and process improvements, leading teams to deliver better outcomes. This background gives him a sharp eye for operational efficiency and a practical understanding of how to streamline workflows.

Client-Centric Approach

In his role as Head of Operations, Jack is instrumental in ensuring our clients receive exceptional and efficient service. His commitment to understanding client requirements and offering personalised, high-quality support is central to Tank Insurance's client-centric approach.

Legal and Insurance Experience

Simonna brings a unique combination of legal expertise and hands-on insurance experience to Tank. She previously worked as an insurance broker at Tank Insurance, so she understands the broking side of the business from the ground up.

Her legal career spans construction and projects law, where she's worked on transactions, disputes, and M&A across infrastructure and renewables. She's worked in top-tier, national, and boutique law firms for clients including ASX-listed companies, Tier 1 construction firms, and national and international developers and EPCs.

How She Supports Tank

Simonna works behind the scenes to support the team and the business. She trains brokers on how to read contracts, identify key clauses, and understand what to look for so they're better equipped when working with clients. She also provides general legal oversight and compliance support for Tank.

Her background in construction law is particularly valuable given the volume of trades, contractors, and design and construct professionals we work with. It gives the team a sharper understanding of the risks and contractual obligations our clients deal with, especially when it comes to Professional Indemnity.

Practical Trade Perspective

Brady brings a practical, hands-on perspective to insurance. With a background in trade and installation, he has a genuine understanding of blue-collar industries and connects naturally with business owners and tradespeople.

Property Specialist

Brady specialises in general insurance with a strong focus on property and business cover. He works closely with buyers' agents, real estate professionals, and conveyancers to make sure clients have the right protection for major investments.

Specialist Capability

His expertise spans residential and commercial property insurance, with a focus on non-strata single-title properties and landlord cover. He is also building capability in professional indemnity and hard-to-place risks, where his calm and methodical approach consistently delivers strong results.

Operations Leadership

Erika brings strong operational experience to Tank. She's led remote teams of up to 250 staff and worked alongside directors to help scale a business by 450%. She knows what it takes to build systems that actually work and keep things running smoothly.

Client Success Focus

Before joining Tank, Erika worked as a Relationship Manager, overseeing around 20 to 25 property settlements a month. That meant coordinating buyers agents, conveyancers, property managers, and inspectors to make sure everything came together. Guiding clients through high-stress transactions and getting things over the line is something she's done hundreds of times, and that experience shows in how she supports our clients now.

Senior Support and Mentor

Now RG146 qualified, Erika has become a senior voice within Tank's broker support team. Alongside her day-to-day work with quoting, renewals, and claims, she mentors and trains newer team members, helping them get up to speed on Tank's systems and the way we work. She's the steady hand others go to for a second opinion.

Insurance Operations Specialist

Naman brings over six years of insurance operations experience to Tank. His background covers Property and Casualty and Health Insurance across Australian and US markets, giving him a solid understanding of compliance, back-office processing, and what brokers need to get deals done.

End-to-End Policy Support

From quoting and new business through to renewals, endorsements, and claims lodgement, Naman has handled it all. He knows how to keep things moving efficiently so clients aren't left waiting.

Team Leader and Mentor

Before Tank, Naman led teams at another brokerage where he trained and upskilled many of the staff. That mentoring instinct stays with him today. He's also Lean Six Sigma trained, so he naturally builds SOPs, streamlines workflows, and spots inefficiencies before they become problems.

Claims Specialist with Australian Market Experience

Angelo brings over eight years as an Insurance Claims Officer at QBE, working entirely within Australian insurance regulations. He's assessed claims across motor, commercial, and property risks, determining liability, validating documentation, and getting settlements over the line.

Professional Services and Financial Lines Focus

At Tank, Angelo specialises in professional services and financial lines risks. That covers Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, and the more complex policies where wording, exclusions, and scope of cover matter most. His legal training is a real advantage when reading these policies and breaking them down for clients.

Claims Management

Angelo also manages claims for Tank's clients. Having spent years on the insurer side, he knows how claims teams think, what documentation matters, and how to push for fair outcomes. When something goes wrong for a client, that experience makes a real difference.
